PAD Choir using parametric EQ,

Caustic Song file (optional):

I must thank Rkillah and UncleAFX..
Thanx to a conversation we had about choir presets, and modular's formant filter, I've been working a lot on PADsynth and parametric EQ, just to verify that we could use this effect pedal to model the voice formants..
H was not sure it would work, but it worked even better than I could have expected..
Here is a result.. Of course, you can save the sound if you like it.. But the PADsynth preset by itself is not enough, you need the parametric EQ and it's settings.. So if ever you want to use the sound, best is to use the song, delete all my notes, and start your own sound..
Or you have to re- create the equalisers settings..
H must say that it's not the first time I try to synthesise human voices, with Ensoniq, Yamaha, Roland or Korg devices, and I believe that I never was so close to the real thing.. Caustic is won- der- ful !!
So once again thank you Rkillah, thank you Uncle..
And of course thank you Rej..
Thierry

Sounds really good dude. I would really be surprised if it could be done much better in caustic. It would be nice to route them in the modular with formant filters and automation to get the ee's and oo's and aa's like we talked about before, but so far I'm not able to do it without the extra "vinyl" sound the formants produce. I can kindof hide them by adding filters, but the end result is still not as good, as you also mentioned before.

Thanx Uncle..

Thanx Uncle..

My preset sometimes sounds like a mix "Strings + Voices"..  On some notes.. I suppose t comes from the PADsynth preset that I made.. Working a little bit on it, and maybe it would sound more purely-vocal..

But sure, "it could be done much better in caustic"..

Something that seems to make

Something that seems to make a big difference... I raised the last slider, or the "smear bar" to max on all of the harmonics editor screens. This lessens the metallic stringy effect by blending all of the individual harmonics.

Yes.. But it makes the detune

Yes.. But it makes the detune effect more present.. I dont like it that much.. Especially when this phasing.like effect tends to suggest a rythm which might be different of the tune's rythm.. In the case of  my  "voicy" tune, there is no drum or bass or any source of rythm..

I have set the tempo at 93 because of the apparent rythm given by the detune effect.. In other songs, when there is a drum or anything, fixing the tempo, the regular detune might tend to suggest another tempo, and then the note you play might be at the wrong place..

That's why, very often, when I can decrease the detune effect, i do it.. But you're right,by raising the width bar, the sounds gets sweeter and more natural..

Ok I get it now. When you

Ok I get it now. When you mentioned width before I thought you meant in the mixer. And I didn't notice the change in the deluxe effect until you just now mentioned it. I've learned quite a bit the last cpl of days playing with the padsynth. I've never used it much before but maybe I will now.

I like the PADsynth a lot..

I like the PADsynth a lot.. (My favorite one is the FMsynth, though)..

I wish there were velocity control on the "morphing" parameter, on the PADsynth..

Concern, ing the sound file, I raised the "width" or "Smear" bar, only on the lower octave choir.. And you're right, it sounds better..

On the "solo" mid-pitch and high pitch parts, I leave the bar at mid-course, I like it better.. Maybe because on this song, I want them to be almost solo voices.. Maybe on another song, I would want them to sound as a choir, and I would raise the bar..

Patrick Tow uploaded in the

Patrick Tow uploaded in the preset section of this forum, a "BETTER AHHS" preset for PADsynth..
It fully deserves itr name, cause it's a good one..
I tried it with the same parametric EQs with the same settings, and the result is nice..
I felt the need to raise harmonic 2 so that's it's louder than harmonic 1, and harmonic 3 to approx the same level as harmonic 1..
The result is in the caustic filejoined to this post.
Using this PADsynth preset, I'm no more disturbed by the "detune effect"..
