Vocality TTS is here...

At last I've managed to find the time to get my Text-To-Speech app to near release state.

So without further ado, I present a beta version of Vocality TTS, for those of you who are interested to test:

http://db.tt/0ZSgdq8A

You will need to ensure you have set your device settings to allow install of non-Market apps (it will be released through the Market when finished).

The app is fairly straight-forward, it uses the TTS engines you have installed on your phone to generate .wav files of text, which you could then load into PCM slots in Caustic for example.

You can select the TTS engine to use, language, speed and pitch, create/delete presets and save the entered text as one  .wav file or break it down into separate files per word.

You can either use the sliders to set the pitch/speed, or type values directly into the boxes to the right of each slider.  A value of 1.0 equates to the default normal speed/pitch.

A long press on the preset window brings up the context menue to create/overwrite/delete presets.  Presets store the TTS engine, language, speed and pitch settings.

The question mark button (top-right) toggles Help-Mode, which when enabled will tell you what each widget does when you click on it.

I'm particularly interested in testers who use custom ROMs where there is no TTS engine installed by default I believe.

Nice work! Love it. Girls

Nice work! Love it. Girls are getting a kick out of the silly phrases and voice tones we get out of it. Question, tho..... Do you have any control over the vocal formant characteristic at all?

Works flawless on Galaxy Nexus 4

Now if we ca get a pattern editor to work here and make this sing......hmmmm

Well the plan is to have some

Well the plan is to have some kind of close support from Caustic. We haven't worked out all the details yet, but I'd like to have something where you could call this directly from Caustic (probably in the WAV editor), create your TTS output and have it load up automatically (without having to save/then browse to find the file)

But there's already lots you can do with it now and simple clips. Try to resist making it say stupid/obscene things, I dare you wink

Just tried it on my Kindle running CyanogenMod 10 (4.1.2) and it had three TTS engines installed and worked fine, but I might have installed them from a previous beta... I'll let others chime in. I know DJBR runs ROMs.

Excellent! Thanks guys!

Excellent! Thanks guys!

I did forget to mention that the kids love it!

J, unfortunately the android TTS API only lets you control pitch and speed. You can get some good whisper style effects with the pitch down very low on the default google TTS engine. The German voice on that one is also good for kraftwerk style robotic voices.

No problem J. This beta will expire at the end of the month, at which point if I've not found any new bugs, I'll release it properly here and on the android market(s) .

Manually changing tts engine?

I installed svox but how do I change vocality to use svox instead of the default engine? Vocality says it supports svox.

Hi @DaBozza!

Hi @DaBozza!

You should be able to change the yrs engine if you hit your menu button, go to settings then text to speech engine then choose svox. Make sure you've actually installed and downloaded some svox voices as well.

Let me know if you still have issues.
